Three situations we often come across in the city, and how we deal with them.
Pre-war building
Homes in Oost, De Pijp and the Jordaan often have timber floor joists. We first check these for deflection and moisture. On timber, we level dry using board materials, never with wet levelling compound. A floor that slopes by several centimetres adds to the build-up height; we discuss this beforehand, along with the impact on doors and the first stair tread.
Apartment in a VvE (owners' association)
Many VvE regulations set a requirement for impact sound reduction. We select a floor and underlay with a certified rating and give you the test report. Note that this is a laboratory rating: what you achieve in your building also depends on the floor structure beneath. Glue-down PVC flooring applied directly to the subfloor offers very little sound reduction.
Upper-floor apartment or canal house
Narrow, steep stairs and no lift. The materials are carried up in smaller packs. We agree on parking and unloading with you beforehand; in the city centre, you apply for a day permit from the municipality yourself.

How it works
Measurement
During the on-site assessment we take measurements, inspect the subfloor and test the moisture levels. An on-site assessment is free if you purchase the floor from us. If you decide not to go ahead with us, the visit costs €150.
Quote
After the measurement, you will receive a quote clearly listing all costs and the schedule.
Schedule
Once approved, we order the floor; we install usually within 2 to 4 weeks after approval. We arrange parking and unloading in advance.
Installation
We usually fit a living room in one day, and a full home or herringbone floor in 2 to 3 days. Levelling and drying time are added beforehand.
Frequently asked questions about PVC flooring in Amsterdam
Can you also work in canal houses?
Yes. In older buildings, we first inspect the joists, the stairs and how uneven the floor is. We make an uneven subfloor flat before fitting; on timber floors we do this using a dry system with board materials. A floor that slopes by several centimetres is a different matter: we cannot always level that out without adding significant build-up height. We discuss this during the measurement visit, before you sign anything.
How quickly can you start in Amsterdam?
We fit usually within 2 to 4 weeks after approval. We only order the materials once you have signed.
Do you also arrange parking and unloading?
For the city centre, we recommend applying for a day permit from the municipality yourself. During the on-site assessment, we will agree on how to handle parking and unloading at your address and whether any costs are involved. This will then be included in your quotation.
How much does it cost to have a PVC floor installed in Amsterdam?
The same as elsewhere: € 70 to € 95 per m² including installation, herringbone € 80 to € 90 and chevron € 85 to € 95. Levelling (€ 10 to € 25 per m²) or removing an old floor is listed separately on the quotation. In older buildings, dry levelling over timber joists is often required; we determine that price after the on-site assessment.
My apartment is part of a VvE (homeowners' association). What should I bear in mind?
Check your deed of division or house rules to see if there is an impact sound requirement. We will then select a floor and underlay with a certified rating and provide the test report for your VvE. Note that this is a laboratory rating: the actual performance in your building also depends on the structural floor beneath. Glue-down PVC flooring applied directly to the subfloor offers very little sound reduction and requires an acoustic underlay.
Do you also work in Noord, Nieuw-West and the surrounding municipalities?
Yes, across all city districts and in the immediately surrounding municipalities, such as Amstelveen, Diemen and Ouderkerk aan de Amstel.
Can PVC be used with underfloor heating?
Yes, provided the manufacturer certifies the floor as suitable. The floor surface temperature must not exceed 27°C, and on a new screed, the heating-up protocol must be completed first.
How long does installation take?
We usually fit a living room in one day, and a whole home or herringbone floor in 2 to 3 days. Levelling and its drying time take place beforehand. A canal house with multiple floors takes longer; this will be set out in the schedule on your quotation.
